Term Definition
Redundancy

Refers to identical or near identical items. In germplasm analyses it refers to (near) duplicate germplasm accessions.

Regeneration

The process of restoring a whole plant from individual cells by manipulating an in vitro culture. The growing of a sample of seeds from an accession to replenish the viability of the original accession. It is usually done when the viability of the original material drops to less than 85%.

Regeneration standard

The percentage seed viability at or below which the accession must be regenerated to produce fresh seeds.

Relative humidity

(RH) A measure of the amount of water present in the air compared to the greatest amount possible for the air to hold at a given temperature, expressed as a percentage. It differs from "absolute humidity", which is the amount of water vapour present in a unit volume of air, usually expressed in kilograms per cubic meter.

Resistance Gene Homologue Polymorphism

(RGHP) A group of molecular marker techniques that target groups of resistance genes by PCR using primers aimed at conserved domains of resistance genes.

Restriction enzyme

An endonuclease that will recognize a specific sequence and cut the DNA chain at that point.

Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism

A molecular marker technique that targets variation in DNA restriction sites and in DNA restriction fragments

Retrotransposon-Based Insertional Polymorphism

(RBIP) A molecular marker technique that targets variation in retrotransposon insertion sites.

Retrotransposon-Microsatellite Amplified

A molecular marker technique that targets variation in retrotransposon insertion sites.

RFLP

Restriction fragment length polymorphism. Variation between individuals as detected by differences in DNA fragment sizes after restriction digestion.
